First Year

Again, another late post.

Two months ago was Thomas' 1st Birthday!! Yeah. Everyone tells you how fast the first year passes and how quickly your baby grows up (I will now be one of the people who says that to other people).  It has been a wonderful year and for some reason his birthday has made me reflect on this short time we've spent together so far. When I think of him as a newborn, part of me feels sad because so much of the first months seem a blur. Do women get used it with each child? Because I feel like I had a mild concussion for about 4 months. I wasn't really processing anything, just surviving. When Thomas was about one week old my Mom said to me "Well, aren't you enjoying Motherhood?". Looking back, I can honestly say, no, at two weeks, I was not "enjoying" motherhood. I was enjoying painkillers. (Not in the addictive sense, in the, thank you medical field sense.) I was however, so grateful to finally have this sweet baby in my life and thoroughly enjoyed moments of motherhood. I can think of the first time his little fingers curled around mine and how it pulled at my heart. The anticipation of seeing see his first smile and hear his first laugh. We were so excited when he sat up, and applauded his crawling, and were thrilled at every step from there. We thought everything he could do was amazing, and frankly, still do.

I love my little Thomas Henry, he is so wonderful and sweet and curious and full of energy, and he fills up my heart. (This may be the only birthday he has where I can say those things, so I'm getting them out there.) I love being a Mother.

Now for some logistical updates.
-Thomas started walking right at about 12 months. (Now at almost 14 months he RUNS, most places.)
-First word: BIRDS (He watches them out the window from his highchair for every meal. The eat at Grandma's bird feeders on the porch.)
-We also think he says Dad, or Hi Dad. And Greg swears he says words like "garage"and "upstairs", but I've yet to hear them. But I CAN tell you that he does not say mama. Not even close.
-He has missed a few doctor's appts. so I don't know what percentiles he is in. I just know he is tall.
-He has 8 teeth. And they bite REALLY hard (but only if your hand is still too long in front of his face).028 copy

Thank you Coterie for the awesome neon cupcake idea. I didn't get many pictures of the sweets, so I'll steal a few from her blog.

When your husband dresses your child

Greg took to opportunity to highlight the wonderful infant fashions of Arizona while I was out. I thought he was a pretty good photographer.
